Marie Kondo:

Who is she??

If you don’t know who Marie Kondo is, please emerge from under the rock you’ve been living under. Marie Kondo is our organizing, cleaning up, joy-sparking QUEEN. Are we sure where she came from? No. Did she absolutely change our lives? Um, hell yeah.

Before Marie Kondo’s Netflix Original Show premiered, it’s safe to say that this world wasn’t as much of a healthy environment. A time before Marie Kondo? I don’t know her. She revolutionized everything as we know it, and while some would only take organizing advice from her, Marie Kondo is ahead of her time in more ways than one.

First and foremost, let’s start by explaining who she is and what she does. Marie Kondo is a Japanese organizing consultant and known author, she came up with the KonMari method– this system is a way to clean up your home by getting rid of the things that do not spark your joy. Since you may not have any time to read her well-known book “The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up”, get ready for a quick and short explanation of what KonMari really is.

Here it is the gist ladies: While you begin to declutter, hold each individual item in your hands and ask yourself if this specific item brings you joy. If it sparks joy, keep it. If it doesn’t, throw that shit out. Does it spark joy? DOES IT?

Marie has five fundamental steps in helping you become a more organized individual– something we know my parents wish I was.

First off, tidy all at once and try to tidy all up on the same day. Don’t procrastinate and do a little today and then a little tomorrow– RIP OFF THAT BANDAID.

Second, make sure you visualize the kind of environment you would want to live in. (No, not that penthouse in New York City), instead, focus on the vision that there will be peace around you in your space.

Third, here we bring back the sparking of the joy. If something does not spark your immediate joy, it’s time to get rid of it. This one goes out to all of the hoarders that are still keeping their elementary school valentine’s day cards (okay, don’t come for me). Only keep the items that bring you joy and happiness so you can focus on that in your living space.

Fourth, tackle things by categories. Tackle all the clothes in your house at once, all of the photographs, memorabilia, etc.

Finally, KonMari has an ideal checklist in the order that one should tidy by. The list is in order as follows: clothes, books, papers, Komono (misc.), and sentimental.

Marie Kondo had all of us getting rid of our old shit, including our crappy ex’s sweatshirt that we never wore anyway but we didn't let go of because... I still don’t know the reason? Some would say KonMari is cheaper than therapy and twice as effective. As previously mentioned, we think you can Marie Kondo absolutely everything and anything in your life. Does your job spark joy? Does your boyfriend? Does that second-grade yearbook? It’s time to let go, sis. Marie would want you to thank it and kiss it goodbye.

WARNING: Please do not throw away absolutely everything in your closet that does not spark your joy if you cannot afford new clothes that do spark your joy. This is coming from the people who said their entire closet didn’t spark them joy and are now stuck wearing the same blouse Monday through Thursday.

Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.

Anyway, give KonMari a try and

thank us later.
